The short answer is Yes. There are attorneys who focus only on disability cases and by extension, dealing with the Social Security Administration. Of course, some attorneys in this field are better than others. Some have higher rates of success and are better at working with their clients.

An attorney who specializes in one or two types of law is more likely to give you better bang for your buck. The “jack of all trades, master of none” type attorney is not who you want for your case. You want a person who has many reps under their belt in a specific legal field.

Maria, a disability attorney in Melbourne, FL stated the following: “You only get one appeal for your disability case should it be denied. If you didn’t hire an attorney for the initial application it would be in your best interest to do so for the appeal. An attorney increases your chances of getting approved by up to 40%.”

Where to Find a Good Disability Attorney

Reach out to your friends who are on disability and see if they use an attorney. If they have a good attorney then ask them for a referral. The attorney will most likely accept your case even if he or she is completely booked out because of the personal connection to a previous client.

Google is your friend. They do a pretty good job of collecting reviews from real clients and publishing that data for all to see. Do a simple Google search of disability attorneys in your are and look at the rating of 1-5 stars. Also, pay attention to how many reviews they have. It’s easy to get a 5 star rating when you only have four reviews, but what about 100 reviews? There are useful other tips to hiring an attorney available as well.

    What Else You Should Know

Document your visits to the Dr. These are the legal roadmap to your condition and showing proof that you are disabled. Remember, the people making the decision don’t know you. They can only act on what you show them.

There are many millions of people vying for disability payments. It is a very good idea to hire an attorney from the start and document everything you can. You get two shots at this and that is it.
